We are thrilled to introduce Culture Month 2024, a vibrant celebration of culture and heritage that will enliven the weekends throughout September. This year’s programme at the Old Church Centre promises many stimulating events, ranging from art and photographic exhibitions to recitals, lectures, music and film workshops, and more. We are honoured to welcome esteemed guests from the political, musical, literary, and artistic spheres, including Eamonn Mallie, Cathal McNaughton, Roger Fitzpatrick, Declan Lawn, Anne Devlin, Karl McGuckin, and Liam Ó Maonlaí. Highlights of the month include the Art Exhibition, showcasing local painters at the Old Church Centre. The Launch Event will celebrate the historical links between Cushendun and Newtowncrommelin, featuring a captivating lecture by historian Kevin Hamill. Reconnect with traditional set dancing at St Ciaran’s Primary School, with a workshop led by Ronán Eastwood. The Ulster Orchestra offers a unique musical experience with their ‘Inside the Music’ workshop for young people, followed by an evening concert featuring their wind section. Explore Cushendun’s hidden gems with tour guide Jude McNeill during the Walking Tour. Join renowned journalist and author Eamonn Mallie as he shares insights from his remarkable career and his latest book, “Eyewitness to War and Peace.” Learn about the history and renovation of the Old Church Centre during the European Heritage Day open house event. Visit Glenmona House for the Annual Book Sale, and view the extraordinary photographic collection “Reflections” by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Cathal McNaughton, who will also give a talk. Enjoy an evening of classical and crossover music with the talented bass-baritone Karl McGuckin.
