I Am Maura
9 February 8:00 pm - 9:15 pm
£14Belfast, 2005. Maura is 15 and trying to find a boyfriend. Only she’s surrounded by girls and is starting to think she might actually prefer them. Asking questions in school means awkward blushes and detention. Her only guidance is Martine McCutcheon’s ‘Perfect Moment’ and her best mate Ali.
From the creative team behind the smash hit ‘The Gap Year’, Commedia of Errors present this hilariously heartfelt look at young love from the eyes of a Belfast teenager. Presented at the Belfast Children’s Festival this pocket-rocket play is back on tour for generations of young and old to enjoy!
‘I Am Maura’ is a light-hearted and deft look at the life-changing decisions we all face in our teenage years and how we’re woefully ill-equipped to deal with them. In this one-woman play, audiences will encounter over two dozen characters, and places the audience at the centre of this pivotal week in Maura’s life.
”Visually rich and crying out to be pinched by Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee. A great showcase for McMahon’s writing” – Alan in Belfast
“Calla Hughes… rings a sweetly innocent sense of befuddlement and revelation to Maura’s growing pains” – Belfast Theatre Guide
“Director Benjamin Gould has it all sewn up quite sweetly. The script is tight as a drum and Hughes is spot on 100 per cent of the time.” – Culture Crush NI
